Rural Water Supply

a) PROFILE

Role & Functionality of Dept.:

There are 7 Revenue Divisions with Head Quarters at Kakinada, Peddapuram, Rajahmundry, Rampachodavaram, Ramachandrapuram, Amalapuram and Yetapaka. The District consists of 64 Revenue Mandals and 62 Rural Mandal Parishads.  1069 Gram Panchayats exist in the District including newly added panchayats from Khammam District.

There are two Municipal Corporations viz., Kakinada and Rajahmundry as well as 7 Municipalities Samalkot, Pithapuram, Peddapuram, Tuni, Ramachandrapuram, Mandapeta and Amalapuram.

The Department of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation is vested with the responsibility to supply safe drinking water and sanitation in the rural areas. For supply of drinking water in the rural areas spread over 3,371 habitations Government has created 12,372 hand pumps, 2164 PWS/MPWS Schemes and 54 CPWS Schemes. The CPWS Schemes itself to cater 1636 habitations with a population of 22.20 Lakhs (including Sri Satya Sai water supply project) over the years for supply of drinking water. Sri Satya Sai water supply schemes are catering protected drinking water needs to 212 Tribal Habitations in 10 Mandals (Upland & Agency area) with a Population of 2.62 Lakhs.

Swacha Bharat Mission(Gramin):

Swachha Bharat Mission (SBM) was launched by Government of India on 2nd October, 2014 to make India Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2019.
